Where are you from?
I am originally from Springfield, VA. I came to Virginia Tech as a student in 1998 and relocated to Richmond after graduation. Our relocated was short lived as we returned to Blacksburg just a few short years later.
How did you get involved in advising?
I started working at Virginia Tech in various positions assisting students after we moved back to Blacksburg. After a few years, I realized I truly enjoyed working with and helping students. A position opened in up in the office that housed my undergraduate major and I was able to work with students in an advising capacity. I later attended graduate school to learn more about advising, student development, student affairs, and higher education administration to more effectively work with students. It was one of the best decisions I have made! Working on campus with students provides new challenges and learning opportunities each day/semester/year. The students provide an energy that you can’t match in any other workplace.
What is your favorite book?
I love the Harry Potter books and movies. However, I must give an honorable mention to my favorite holiday movies, A Christmas Story, Christmas Vacation, and Elf.
